No, it's not me yelling that at you. Rather, if a
horse could talk he'd say he likes quiet. So I
want you to learn the horse training quiet rule.
It's another little secret of horse training.
Simply stated, you train a horse quietly.
One of the ways to create bonds and friendships with
horses is to use quietness. Quietness speaks
volumes in the horse world.
If you've ever been around a horse when he hears a gun
go off you'd know how upsetting it is to him. Thus,
the opposite of that (quietness) is calming.
Sometimes I find people talk too much (and too loud)
when they work with their horses. Horses can be
trained with very little voice and in fact can be
trained with no vocal sound at all.
I like to use quiet at the end of my training sessions
with my horse. Once I'm finished and they've done what
I asked, I pet them and I'm very quiet. Quietness is
soothing because it doesn't cause alarm which causes
uneasiness.
Does that mean you never speak to your horse?
Nah.
It's good to speak to your horse...especially when
they've done good or you're greeting them in the
morning.
There are just times when being quiet is advantageous.
In fact, you'd be surprised what you can learn when
you're quiet. I do my best learning when I'm quiet. My
horses have taught me wonderful things when I'm
listening.
